Wall complete with the doorway lintel cut in.

Take the first three-course strips cut at the very beginning, and add these to the top edges of the gables. Cut the angle at the top first, and then adjust the bottoms until they are a snug fit against the top of the wall. Then cut into the top of the doorway with a file by 3mm each side, and add a 3mm strip (reversed brick sheet) to represent the cast-iron lintel. Repeat this with the other end and the side doorway.

THE DOOR RAIL

Next, to make the door rail, draw out the shape on 20-thou sheet. The rail should be 113mm overall in length and 3mm deep. Use a former or compasses to get the curves equal (I used an old till roll of about 18mm diameter). For the support girders, cut four short lengths of 40 × 40-thou strip and run a flat needle file down either side to simulate an I-girder. The length is not important as it can be sanded back later. Add these as shown, cut the rail from the sheet and add on top of the girders. Note the top of the rail sits four courses down from the top of the doorway, leaving the top open. It is in essence a gate more than a door. When the joints are hard, sand the I-girders flush with the rail.
